A shooting in Westerville early Monday morning has left one person dead and a teenager critically injured, according to police.
Officers with the Westerville Division of Police responded around 2 a.m. to reports of a fight at Hicks Park. When they arrived, they found two victims in the parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds to the head.
Authorities confirmed that a 23-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. A 16-year-old boy was transported to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Investigators say the incident followed a large gathering of teens and young adults who had attended a nearby party near 29th Street and Sheridan Road. After the party ended, the group reportedly moved to a nearby QuikTrip but was asked to leave before heading to Hicks Park.
Police believe a fight broke out shortly after the group arrived at the park, which escalated into gunfire.
At this time, no suspects have been identified, and authorities have not released further details about what led to the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to determine exactly what happened.
